Engagement Session

Dallas Wedding Photographer | Highland Park Engagement Session

I had a blast at Margaret and Chris’ Highland Park engagement session. I was having a lackluster week, and these two brightened my day. They have such great personalities and were easy to talk to. It’s no wonder I could feel myself grinning on the drive home.

Margaret and Chris followed my style guide to perfection! Plus, Margaret went to Tease to Please for Hair and Makeup. If you’re on the fence about if you should get professional hair and makeup for your engagement session, here is your cue to do it! I promise you won’t regret it! They both came to the session with their “A” game!

I can’t wait for their wedding this Fall at one of my favorite venues in North Texas, The French Farmhouse! I’m a little sad their adorable pup won’t be there but I can’t wait to see the ways they incorporate him into their reception decor.

Please see some of my favorites from Margaret and Chris’ Highland Park engagement session.

About the Couple

How did you two meet?

We met on Hinge- we both swiped right!

What was it about your significant other that first attracted you to them?

Margaret: I loved that Chris’s profile pics were terrible- that sounds opposite of what it should be like LOL, but I didn’t want someone with super posed mirror selfies and gym pictures. We messaged for weeks before we met and the conversation always flowed so easily. When we met it was like we had known each other for years. But the thing that attracted me to Chris the most was how he always showed up for me even when I made him attend a weekend house party with all my friends 1 month into dating, he didn’t even question it he just wanted to be where I was.

Chris: On our first date she was so easy to talk to, it was so natural. She was beautiful and outgoing and so much fun that I didn’t want the night to end. I loved getting to see her fun side when we went to the jazz bar next door to our first date spot.

Tell us your engagement story!

Margaret: I definitely thought he was going to propose on our two year anniversary where we had a trip planned to the beach- he surprised me by doing it the weekend before which is not easy because I always pick up on surprises. We recreate our first date on our anniversary Mi Cocina followed by cocktails at the jazz bar next door. I should have known something was up when Chris wanted to wear a suit to dinner at Mi Cocina. When we got to the jazz bar, I was shocked when they called us up on stage and he dropped down to one knee right there. He even had our friends hiding in another part of the bar- they were there to celebrate with us and thankfully film the whole thing so we have that memory forever.

Chris: I knew she was expecting me to propose during our beach trip- but Margaret had always told me she wanted an engagement celebration with our friends so I planned it the weekend before hoping she wouldn’t guess. She is good at figuring things out so I enlisted her best friend to help me plan it. I wanted to do it at the spot where we had our first date, I prearranged everything with the jazz bar owner and had our friends hiding in the background.

I was beyond nervous with this beautiful engagement ring burning a hold in my jeans pocket since Margaret thought it was weird when I wanted to wear a suit to Mi Cocina. At the end of the night, I was just hoping the words would come outright.

What has you most excited when you think about your wedding day?

We are both so excited about having all the people we love the most in one place for an epic celebration!

Do you have any advice for other couples planning their wedding?

Don’t argue over the little things- we learned this quickly when we had very different ideas over our first dance song. We both learned to be open minded to each other’s ideas and not let the small things get the best of us Also wedding planning is so overwhelming- take time with each other to celebrate the process. When we make a decision on an important vendor we have a little celebration, even just popping some champagne at home together to commemorate progress towards our big day keeps us excited about wedding planning.

How was your overall session experience?

It was really fun! We were both nervous about looking awkward and not knowing how to pose, but Kim made us feel so comfortable and natural. It was like we had always been taking pictures together like that.

We brought our dog and we really appreciated how easy it was to include him- those are some of our favorite shots.

Share something interesting about your significant other

Margaret: Chris knows more about football than any other person I’ve ever met. Maybe it’s the 9 fantasy football teams or the 24/7 football watching on TV but his knowledge of the sport is pretty impressive.

Chris: Margaret absolutely cannot fall asleep unless she is watching true crime on TV and now I have to have it on to fall asleep too.
