Annie and Ryan’s Engagement Session | Arlington Hall

Engagement Session

November 16, 2020

I am excited to share Annie and Ryan’s engagement session on the blog today! I met up with these two at Arlington Hall in Downtown Dallas and they showed up looking totally AMAZING. It is so nice when couples show up looking like they stepped out of the pages of my style guide!

It was fun getting to know them a little better. I couldn’t wait to go home and tell my son that I met a mechanical engineer!

These two will be tying the knot next fall at Crescent Court Hotel. This is one of my favorites for engagement sessions so I am super excited to get to photograph their wedding there.

I hope you enjoy just a few of my favorites from their engagement session at Arlington Hall!

More about the Couple

How did you two meet?

I met Ryan through a mutual friend on the night of St. Louis’ annual balloon glow when Ryan threw a party at his house. We had an instant connection from the moment we met and as the night went on, had great conversation fueled by many, many drinks. The next week, Ryan took me on a proper date to the park where we really got to know each other and I knew our new found relationship was something very special.

What was it about your significant other that first attracted you to them?

Annie: Other than the fact that he is extremely handsome, Ryan is incredibly intelligent, caring, and loyal.

Ryan: Obviously there was instant physical attraction, but it was the way our conversation flowed effortlessly and our connection was so natural that I immediately knew she was someone special.

Tell us your engagement story!

A few days before my birthday, we had plans to celebrate with my family. The day started off as normal and Ryan went to pick up my birthday cake to take it to my parent’s house. Little did I know, this is when he was sharing his plan that he was proposing a few hours later and the birthday celebration would actually be an engagement celebration.

Later that afternoon, I began to get ready for the birthday party, and Ryan began decorating (I had no idea!). Ryan had said he was wrapping a present in our guest room, which is not a room I would normally go to, so I thought nothing of it. Right before we were leaving, he told me he had a present for me to open, and I opened a framed letter from him sharing all the things he loved about me. He then told me to close my eyes as he had a present “too big to wrap” in the guest room.

Looking back, this should have been a major clue that I did not put together at the time. He led me into the guest room with my eyes closed, and when I opened them, he was on one knee, surrounded by candles and rose petals, asking me to marry him. I have no idea what I said but there was definitely a huge “yes” involved.

What has you most excited when you think about your wedding day?

I am most excited to marry the love of my life and to have everyone we love, from near and far, together in one room to celebrate with us.

Do you have any advice for other couples planning their wedding?

We haven’t done too much planning so far, but we vowed at the beginning of this process that we would make it fun and never let it be stressful.

The most important thing is that we are getting married and we know the day will be perfect no matter what.

How was your overall session experience?

Our engagement session was great! We have never taking professional pictures together so we had no idea what to expect. Kimberly made us feel so comfortable and at ease in front of the camera. We loved how excited she would get when she knew the picture turned out well. It really shows how much she loves her job and how important it is to her.

Share something interesting about your significant other!

Ryan has an extreme love for snowboarding which took many years of ski trips to convince Annie that it was something she also enjoys. Now we go on 2 trips every year with our family and friends and have skied all over the US (and in Canada)!
